Description

Make a Difference in Greyhound Welfare (Veterinary Officer – Riverina Region)

Are you a passionate veterinarian seeking a rewarding role where you can directly impact animal welfare? The Greyhound Welfare and Integrity Commission (GWIC) is looking for dedicated and motivated individuals to join our team as Veterinary Officers in the Riverina region (Wagga Wagga and Temora racetracks).

Why Join Us?

The GWIC offers a unique opportunity for veterinarians to make a real difference in the lives of racing greyhounds. In this role, you'll be instrumental in ensuring their well-being by providing veterinary services during greyhound race meetings. This casual contract position provides a flexible schedule, allowing you to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The role may involve evenings, weekends, and some public holidays, with competitive compensation exceeding award rates and travel compensation included.

We understand that transitioning to a new environment can be challenging. That's why we offer comprehensive training and ongoing support within a collaborative veterinary team. Whether you have prior greyhound experience or not, we'll equip you with the knowledge and skills you need to excel in this role.

Requirements

What You'll Do:

As a Veterinary Officer, you'll play a vital role in upholding the highest standards of greyhound care. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Conducting pre- and post-race examinations and advising Stewards on a greyhound's fitness to compete.
  • Providing post-race care and treatment when necessary, prioritising the welfare of the animals at all times.
  • Contributing to research and development initiatives aimed at improving greyhound health and welfare.

Who You Are:

We're seeking a registered Veterinarian in NSW with a current driver's license. A strong work ethic and a commitment to animal welfare are essential. You should thrive in a team environment while also being comfortable working independently. Excellent communication skills and the ability to maintain professionalism in dynamic situations are crucial for this role.

Ready to Make a Positive Impact?

We encourage applications from veterinarians seeking a rewarding opportunity to contribute to the betterment of greyhound racing.

How to Apply:

Submit your resume (max 4 pages) and cover letter (max 2 pages) detailing your interest and relevant skills to Chief Veterinary Officer, Dr. Tony Kuipers, at Tony.Kuipers@gwic.nsw.gov.au.

Contact:

For further information, contact Dr. Tony Kuipers at 0459 370 860.

Additional Notes:

New hires will be required to sign a Conflict-of-Interest form and adhere to the GWIC Code of Ethics and Conduct.
