Southern Highlands Equine Centre (SHEC) is a well-established, exclusively equine ambulatory practice located in the stunning Southern Highlands of New South Wales. We are seeking a full-time Equine Veterinarian to join our team in this growing 2 vet practice. This position offers a fulfilling career with potential to grow clientele and skills.
About the Practice
SHEC is a respected ambulatory practice providing high-quality veterinary care to a diverse range of equine clients, including:
- Sport horses – eventing, dressage, show jumping
- Racehorses – thoroughbred and harness racing
- Pleasure horses & pony club mounts
- Boutique studs – limited reproductive work
Our facility in Burradoo supports ambulatory services with minor surgery capabilities, allowing for diagnostics, day procedures, and equine hospitalisation for ongoing treatments. SHEC has a strong affiliation with REC Specialist Equine Centre & Illawarra Equine Centre (IEC), offering access to specialist support, advanced diagnostics, and a collaborative network of equine vets.
The Role
This role offers a diverse and rewarding caseload, including:
- Sports horse & racetrack medicine – lameness, joint therapies, performance optimization
- Lameness investigations & imaging – digital radiography, ultrasound, endoscopy including gastro-scope
- General ambulatory care – dentistry, vaccinations, health checks, and preventative medicine
- Pre-purchase examinations
- Minor reproduction work – limited boutique stud services along with some artificial insemination services.
You’ll be fully equipped with a well-stocked veterinary vehicle (for work and personal use) and access to state-of-the-art equipment, including:
- Digital X-ray & ultrasound
- Endoscopy (Video and gastro-scope)
- Power dental equipment
- In-house laboratory services
An on-call roster of 1 in 4 supports a great work-life balance.

- Competitive salary package – based on experience ($80,000–$130,000)

Requirements
We are seeking a dedicated, motivated equine veterinarian who is:
- Experienced in equine-only or mixed practice (minimum 2 years preferred)
- Interested in sports medicine, lameness & performance horse care
- Confident working independently while being a strong team player
- A great communicator who builds lasting relationships with clients
- Keen to learn and grow professionally
