Exciting opportunity for a dedicated Veterinary Nurse to join a veterinary program rated in the global Top 50
The University of Adelaide’s School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences has achieved outstanding levels of excellence in 11 years of operation. The School’s veterinary program leapt into the Global Top 50 in the 2019 QS academic discipline rankings and received an ERA evaluation rating at level 5 (well above international standard) in the 2019 Excellence for Research in Australia evaluation round. The School provides exceptional outcome-based education and training of animal and veterinary scientists in a strong research environment, consisting of world leading multi-disciplinary teams that provide opportunities for cross disciplinary research, education and innovation in animal health and welfare.
To sustain our success in this field, we are seeking suitably qualified veterinary nurses to provide high quality primary, emergency and critical care services to all equine patients.
Equine nursing duties include:
- Working in the hospital setting undertaking consultations with internal medicine specialists
- Providing care of hospitalised patients including emergency triage and critical care
- Working with equine surgeons on elective and emergency procedures
- Providing support for sports medicine procedures both in hospital and in the field, and
- Providing support and assistance to primary opinion clinicians for both emergency and non-emergency consultations in hospital and in the field.
Working as part of the clinical team you will be required to work through a 24/7 roster, which includes weekends and public holidays.
The Equine Health and Performance Centre (EHPC) is part of the School of Animal and Veterinary Sciences’ clinical teaching facility which operates on a commercial basis, offering a range of first opinion, ambulatory and specialist veterinary services to the general public and referring veterinarians. EHPC also provides a clinical training environment for veterinary students working under the close supervision of experienced veterinarians, nurses and support staff. The centre is situated on the University’s picturesque Roseworthy Campus, approximately 9km from the township of Gawler and on the doorstep of the world-renowned Barossa Valley wine region.
This position will suit an enthusiastic, team-oriented equine nurse with a passion for delivering the highest standards of service and care. You have proven experience as an equine veterinary nurse in a clinical setting with experience in emergency triage, medical and surgical nursing. You are able to work in high pressure situations, have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and are motivated to mentor the next generation of vets and nurses by imparting knowledge and modelling the highest standards of professional behaviour.
To be successful you will need:
- Completion of a relevant certificate or combination of relevant experience and/or education/training
- Demonstrated experience and high level expertise in general horse handling
- Demonstrated experience working in a Clinical setting
- Demonstrated capacity to work independently but participate cooperatively in team activities
- Demonstrated experience and/or knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety
