  • Full-time, HEO 6 (38 hours per week), fixed term contingent on the continuation of external funding, with a base salary of $95K - $102K p.a., plus a generous employer’s contribution to superannuation

About the opportunity 

Reporting directly to the Head Equine Unit, the Equine Veterinary Registrar - Ambulatory position will form part of the Camden Equine Centre (CEC) within the UVTHC in providing high quality equine services in an ambulatory setting supporting the  hospital-based services as required. You will provide supervision and clinical teaching of students on rotation in the ambulatory service each week under the direction of the Equine Unit Head and Senior Lecturer of Equine Practice.  Including participating in a weekly roster covering visits and call outs to clients within the local area for routine and emergency care in the field. This role assists in growing the service through the provision of high-quality clinical care, customer service and teaching under the direction of the Equine Unit Head and senior Lecturer of Equine Practice.  

CEC is recognised as the pre-eminent centre of clinical excellence for equine sports medicine in Australasia and a world leader in the diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of horses with sports related injuries and illnesses through innovative research in the field whilst training the veterinarians of the future.

About you

  • a Veterinary Degree registrable in NSW
  • experience in ambulatory practice in a teaching Hospital setting, or experience deemed equivalent
  • a willingness to be on call and participate in an after-hours roster (additional on call allowance is available)
  • an ability to instruct DVM students effectively.

About us

Sydney School of Veterinary Science is a world-class centre for student learning, research excellence and animal welfare, part of the Faculty of Science. It is recognised internationally as a leading provider of globally accredited veterinary education and is ranked as Australia’s leading veterinary school and 9th in the world in QIS rankings. SSVS also holds the highest research ranking (ERA 5/5) in veterinary science.  The SSVS provides a comprehensive clinical service program across the two campuses of the School. This is facilitated by advanced imaging capacity to support equine including standing MRI, Nuclear Scintigraphy, Equine Treadmill and Ultrasound at the Camden campus, a PACS system that allows remote reporting, and imaging staff movement between the two campuses.

Specialist Anaesthesia and pathology services are in place on site to support the Sports Medicine and the Equine program. There is a large equine operating suite with theatre, induction room and recently constructed anteroom to provide expected levels of biosecurity The position will be based at the University’s Camden campus within the newly formed Equine Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation centre whose goal is to become a premier provider of sports medicine and performance health in horses led by high quality research and teaching.  The role of a veterinary registrar participates in a weekly roster covering visits and call outs to clients within the local area for routine and emergency care in the field. The role assists in growing the service through the provision of high-quality clinical care, customer service and teaching /supervision with other staff and students involved or placed on rotation in ambulatory care.
