Description
This is a unique opportunity for a veterinarian to contribute to the health management of a small Dairy herd used for teaching veterinary students at City University of Hong Kong (CityUHK). The Jockey Club College of Veterinary Medicine and Life Sciences’ Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine programme, taught in English, is internationally accredited by the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons and the Australasian Veterinary Boards Council.
The Opportunity
CityUHK Farm is a purpose-built, well-resourced farm in a pleasant, convenient location in the New Territories of Hong Kong. The Farm is a showcase for sustainable agriculture practice and research, hosting projects on automated computer vision monitoring, reduced carbon footprint foodstuffs, and innovative uses of biochar. With the recent acquisition of new adjacent land, a small beef herd is also planned.
Working together with the farm manager, you’ll be responsible for daily health management of the herd, delivering routine preventive healthcare and for the diagnosis and treatment of disease. Together with faculty veterinarians, you’ll contribute to practical teaching of students on-farm and supervise students on animal husbandry extramural studies placements. You’ll also assist the farm manager in coordinating outside contractors and suppliers, and you’ll oversee the farm during the absence of the farm manager.
What You’ll Do
You’ll work on shifts, including some weekends and public holidays and participate in the on-call roster.
The Package
The remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment will be made on a one-year contract; fringe benefits include leave, medical and dental schemes. For the successful overseas candidate, the package will also include a housing allowance and passage. To apply or for further inquiries, please email your CV and/or questions to sonia.wong@cityu.edu.hk.
Requirements
You will have a veterinary degree that is registrable in Hong Kong and will have experience in cattle veterinary work. You will be confident and competent to manage calvings, mastitis, and nutritional and reproductive diseases of cattle, with support when needed, from faculty veterinarians.
